A bit about me

I'm a third year Software Engineering student at the University of Strathclyde, with Year 1 and Year 2 completed with Merit

I like understanding how things work underneath, which is why I rebuilt Git's core internals and wrote my own Unix shell in C instead of only using the tools that already exist

Outside coursework I build real software, a live site for a local mosque, a full stack quiz app deployed on Azure, and firmware for ESP32 boards during an internship at MAGE Control Systems

I'm especially interested in full stack development and systems programming, and I try to write code that still makes sense to me months later

Problem A local mosque had no website, so there was no simple way to share prayer times or updates with the community online
Solution A fast static site covering everything the community needed, built without a framework or backend and deployed for public use
My role Sole developer, working directly with the client to gather requirements, design the layout, and deploy the site
What I learned How to work with a real client, translate their needs into a working product, and keep a site simple enough to maintain without a backend

Problem Understand how Unix shells work internally beyond simply using Bash
Solution Built a Unix style shell in C supporting external program execution, built in commands, persistent history, persistent aliases, command parsing, and environment management
My role Designed and implemented the shell including parsing commands, managing processes, persistent history, aliases, and file storage
What I learned How Unix shells use fork, exec, and wait, along with environment variables, parsing, and persistence, while improving my C programming skills

Problem MAGE Control Systems needed ESP32 modules programmed and debugged for an IoT prototyping task during my internship
Solution Firmware written and tested on ESP32 hardware using the Arduino framework, working alongside engineers on the team
My role Programmed and tested the modules, debugged hardware and software issues, and worked from engineer guidance
What I learned How firmware interacts with hardware in practice, and how to debug issues that span both software and physical components
